Personality:
Roderich Edelstein is a reserved, quiet young man, who enjoys playing the piano and violin, and he’s pretty skilled at it. He’s wise for his age, and can sound like an old man sometimes. He might seem cold and snobby, though he’s just trying to be polite and reserved, and he can be very shy around people he’s only just met. Underneath his stuck up attitude he is actually quite a nice guy, and quite innocent of heart. He’ll blush madly at anything that sounds “vulgar or imprudent”, as he would say. In the snow he seems like a different person. Having loved the snow and the mountains since childhood, Roderich can ski and snowboard very well. He is confident about his skills, he just won’t show off because he’s careful not to break a hand or arm. He loves the piano more than anything else. If he hasn’t played for a few days, he’ll get an annoying tic of tapping with his fingers on about any flat surface, as if it were an imaginary piano. His favorite composers are Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin. He also tends to be a tight-on-money kind of person and he loves sales.
History:
Roderich used to live with his mother and father in a quite large house just outside Vienna, with his father coming from an aristocratic family. When Roderich was 6, however, both of his parents died in a car accident, and left him as an orphan. Various family members took in Roderich, just to ensure themselves of a part of the family fortune (as they would get money for being Roderich’s caretaker). This resulted in Roderich becoming the freeloader of the family, and being neglected by most, he became a quiet and grown up, grumpy boy, that didn’t really trust people and didn’t say much. He continued playing the piano and violin, aided by a very nice cousin, because it reminded him of his mother who used to play the piano and father who used to play the violin. Roderich never stayed long at a relative’s house; every year or two he was sent away, after the head of the family thought he had been enough trouble. Roderich moved to Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland, Italy and back to Austria in a few years time. When he was 13, a far removed aunt of his took him in, because her husband (a second cousin of Roderich’s father) had died a few years earlier and she was feeling lonely. Roderich, having almost no money anymore because of his greedy family, was happy to be able to return to Austria once more, and live with his aunt in the countryside near Mittersill, Salzburg. The aunt, whom Roderich called Mrs. Sofia, was a strict but nice old lady, that was very intended on manners of aristocrats and insisted that Roderich would become a real gentleman. There was one thing that Roderich loved more than playing violin (although playing the piano was his absolute number one): Skiing and snowboarding. Roderich loved the snow and the sport, ever since he was young. Now that Roderich lived in Alpine surroundings, he went to ski and snowboard every year, and developed great skills. Now that he is older, Mrs. Sofia wanted him to experience some real fun and not be stuck with an old lady in a land house, and she sent him to Resort Du Lucerne. Roderich really wanted to stay in the Austrian Alps, but Mrs. Sofia had connections in Du Lucerne, and thus he ended up in the Swiss Alps instead. You can sometimes hear him say how much better the Austrian Alps are.
Roleplay Sample:
Roderich sighed. Then looked at the view. Ah, Austrian Alps are so much more beautiful… Suddenly Piano Concerto no. 21 by Mozart started playing. It was his phone. ‘Ah, Mrs. Sofia.’ … ‘Why yes, I am alright, I arrived at the resort only a moment ago.’… ‘Yes, Mrs. Sofia. Please be careful when going up the stairs.’… ‘Yes, Maria is still with you? Oh good. Yes, I will hopefully enjoy my stay. Even though the Austrian Alps are better…Mrs. Sofia? Oh, yes…yes…of course I will. Please don’t worry.’ The young man ended the conversation, and wiped his dark brown hair from his blue eyes. Roderich sighed again. He saw the small kids running around, trying to stand on their skis and clinging onto their parents. Snow was being thrown around. Roderich shuddered in his warm, lavender colored coat. He never really minded the cold, but having snow in your face, or worse, stuffed in the back of your neck wasn’t pleasant at all…Red eyes, red eyes and a wolf smirk… He shuddered, as to erase the memories from his childhood. He was here to relax. He straightened his shoulders, took a deep breath, and hoped he wouldn’t make a fool out of himself by running into someone or tripping in the middle of the hall. ‘I do hope they have a piano here…’he uttered, before he pulled all his belongings with him, into the hall of the resort.
